The Following obituary was donated to the Calumet County Genealogy WebPages, donor not identified. Newspaper was also not identified, May 24, 1911. Henry Hass died of old age at Chilton on May 15, 1911. He was borninOsteburg, Schleswig Descendants of Franz MAHRT 8 Holstein, Germany on December 8, 1832. In 1857 he was married toAnnaSchildhauer who died in 1886. He was drafted for the war of Austria and Prussianagainst Denmark and fought for his country until the close of the war. He was a brave man andpassed through many skirmishes unscratched. He moved his family to America in 1867 andsettled on a farm in town of Charlestown on which he resided until 1901 when he purchased a farmin the town of New Holstein, but retired one year later and moved to this village wherehe made his home with his daughter, Annie, who died one year ago. He has since been livingwithhis daughter, Mrs. Margaret Peters, at Chilton where his death took place. Elevenchildren were born of which four died while quite young. Four sons are living, Edward of NewHolstein,William of Hilbert, John of Groten, S.D. and Herman of Dundurn, Canada. Two daughters also survivehim, Mrs. Margaret Peters of Chilton, with whom he made his home and Mrs. Gust. GrothofHatley, Iowa. The funeral was held Thursday May 18th, at Chilton and the remains wereinterred in the family lot in this cemetery. Rev. Landsberger officiating.
