General Notes: From census records: 1880 Detlef Hass (19 born Prussia) living as farm labor wi th Rothjack family, New Holstein, Calumet Co., Wi. -Newspaper clipping: Feb 26, 1885, Chilton Times --" Messrs. H. Eichmeier, P. Lau, P. Hass, and D. Hass left to-day for Devenport, Iowa, with the intentions to work there through summer. " After reviewing many census, birth, etc records for New Holstein, the only D Hass ever found was Detlef, therefore this may refer to him. Unable to find any other records so far. He is not mentioned in Henry Hass's Obituary. Note made January 2004. -Addendum: Found on IA Gen Web, Cemetery page, March 2004. Descendants were contacted. Family correspondence from SD,April 2004: "When Detlaf died, his brother John came to the farm to helpChristine out. He later married her and born of this marriage was Adelia Hass. Adeliaand Alma are then half sisters. Christine and John Hass are buried in theCemetery at Groton, S D, about 1 mile N of the town. So are the majority of the Zolmansand Thedes." -Family correspondence from the Thede family: "Detlef died in Aug1889, along with Christina's 2 nieces, Lillie Miller (4mos old) and Ella Miller (3yearsold)."
