Strickland ashis last will and testament in the presence of us.") Jacob (His Mark) Strickland Edward Nicholson Christopher Naylor Wm. (his mark) Marten Nash Co., - May Term 1790 - the within will was in open court by theoath of Ed Nicholson ordered to be recorded. from "A GA Pioneer. . ." The will of Jacob Strickland, First, dated Aug.18, 1788, Probated andrecorded May Term of Court of Nash Co., N. C. 1790. Lists no wife.Sons, Elisha, Jacob and Jacob (the son of this Jacob), Matthew, Hardyand Henry; Also grandson, Theophelus Hickman, and son, SolomonStrickland. He listed no daughter. Jacob Strickland died about March or April 1790. As he was not listedn the first census 1790 of N. C., he must have died before they tookthe census. Jacob Strickland, First, was the grandfather of Selah, orCelia, Strickland, who married Robert Young. From"A GA Pioneer..." p 89: . . . it will be recalled that the Strickland family figures in theancestry of the Youngs, Blakes, and others. Jacob Strickland'sdaughter, Selah, married Robert Young and afterwards lived and died inHall Co., Georgia; and their daughter, Delaney, married Thomas Blakeof Randolph Co., AL. . . Well, Jacob Strickland, the elder came fromIsle of Wight Co., Virginia, along with his brother, Joseph, andsecured grants of land in Edgecombe Co., North Carolina - but it wasin that part of Edgecombe which was cut off from Nash Co., about 1777.Therefore: Jacob Strickland, of Nash Co., N. C., made his will. Dated Aug. 18,1788. Probated and recorded at May Term of Court, 1790. See C. R.69021, Archives Department at Raleigh. He wills Negroes and otherproperty of various kinds. But he mentions no wife. The legatees were: 1. Elisha. 2. Jacob and his son Jacob (these were the GA Jacobs) 3.Matthew, son 4. Hardy, son. 5. Henry, son. 6. Theophalus Hickman, grandson. 7.Mark, son. and 8. Solomon, son. (The order of these listings may notbe in order of birth -GAH) Now there were but two Stricklands in Edgecombe and Nash Counties, N.C., of the early days, being stated above, Joseph and Jacob. And theyboth left wills in Nash Co.,.
