Matthew Strickland of Isle of Wight Co., VA And His Descendants The will of Matthew Strickland, Jr. of Isle of Wight Co., Va. probatedin 1730 in Isle of Wight, establishes that Matthew, Joseph and Jacobof the 1744 land grants of North Carolina were his sons rather thanthe sons of a John Strickland from England. They could not be thegrandsons of John Strickland of 1629 of Dedham, Massachusetts as isseen from the outline so far since about 3 generations would have toprecede Matthew Strickland Sr. for them even to be in the line ofdescent from this John. More Court records are needed from bothVirginia and North Carolina to trace all thc children of MatthewStrickland, Sr. ; especially needed are the early deed records.
