Anna Maria Helene was premature, and she only lived a couple weeks before passing away.ced with their maternal aunt in Borbeck, Germany. However, they were quite the handful. At one point, they even set fire to her rug (another version of this story is that they burnt her hope chest). This aunt was about to get married, and her future husband gave her an ultimatum: it was him or the kids. She chose him. tary for war. In 1915, Wilhelm was a gunner in Belgium. Then he was stationed in Berlin in the German cavalry. He learned the trade of blacksmithing and shoed the horses. s country, and Wilhelm was left with no family. theater together. So, in 1925, that's exactly what Willie did. The next year, in July, Elisabeth and the kids came over on the ship "George Washington" with her brother, Herman. to Wilhelm's family and Herman's family. However, they also worked to be more "American." They chose to live on the south side on Green Street instead of the Germany north side. Willie was a Sox fan. They even took some English lessons. eplaced by automobiles. Willie found more reliable work at a factory, soldering tin cans.war, and so she and her daughter, Jackie, stayed with Willie and Elisabeth until the war ended. Henry also joined the war effort. He fought for America in WWII and then started suffering from bouts of schizophrenia. He stayed living at home with his parents. Their daughter, Jo, went on to have 9 children.
