Notizen zu dieser Person

Mrs. J.H. Pageler

Geschke Mary Herr was born in Hesel, Circuit Repsold, East Frisia, German Empire, November 19, 1816; died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Jung, at Wells Creek, Kansas, September 22, 1923, aged 76 years. 10 months and 3 days.
In 1872, the deceased came to America with her parents. On April 10, 1874, she was united in marriage to J.H. Pageler, At Monticello, Iowa. To this union seven children were born, the first born proceeded the deceased to the Heavenly home above. Two days after her marriage, the deceased and her husband, who died July 5, 1915, came to the state of Kansas, which was at that time wild and woolly, and very sparely settled and cultivated. Upon their arrival here they lived at Alma for April until October. Then in October they moved to the old Henry Pageler farm at Wells Creek, where they lived and toiled for 28 years until their son was married. After having turned their home place over to their son they made their home on their farm, which was once owned by Henry Hupe.
In April, 1905, they retired from active farm life and for 10 years lived in a very comfortable home one mile east of our church. After her husband had passed away the deceased made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Margaret Jung.
More or less ailing since 1918, when she suffered with the dropsy, her health broke down completely when on January 13, 1921, she received a paralytic stroke, which in the course of time was followed by two others which almost destroyed her speech. But she always rallied fairly well from these attacks yet other more severe complications set in, nephritis showed up and peacefully she fell asleep in the arms of Jesus. She leaves the following six children; Mrs. Anna Schweir of Belvue; Mrs. Tina Pageler of Belvue; Gerd H. Pageler of Wamego; Mrs. Mary Maas of Davenport, IA, Mrs. Margaret Jung of Belvue, and Mrs. Etta Sauer of Belvue. Also 26 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. One sister, Mrs. Wolken of Monticello, Iowa. Two brothers, Hy Herrn of Alma, Kans. and Bernhard Herrn of Monticello,k Iowa whose wife, being at deaths door could not attend his sister's funeral. She also leaves numerous other relatives and host of friends, from whom she received many expressions of sympathy and interest during her long period of illness.
When a young girl she publicly confessed her faith in Jesus Christ as her Saviour and guide through this life and through the valley and shadow of death. With the help of her blessed Christ she was alway faithful member of the Evangelical Immanuel Church, and also of the Foreign Mission Society and has always lived a most beautiful and helpful Christian life in our community. She performed all of her duties with the utmost care and precision, yet she always tender and gentle in word and deed; she spoke tenderly and persuaded with the accents of love rather than with the stern voice of command. She was tender and true mother who pointed her children to the way of truth and righteousness. She lavished love and affection upon her children.
Her journey through life was filled with many severe hardships and when the burden was the heaviest to carry she received the gross in gratitude of the world which almost broke her loving mother's heart, nevertheless, she faithfully and quietly a;lso carried this burden, knowing that the crown of life can only be won after much tribulation and cross bearing.
She had a great yearning to enter eternal rest and when her end came she was ready to go and to stand before Him who alone can say; "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Funeral services were conducted in the English language by her pastor, Rev. F. W. Weltge, at three o'clock Monday afternoon, September 24, in the Evangelical Immanuel Church at Wells Creek. He was assisted by her old time friend and Pastor Rev. J. Abele of Cook, Neb., who conducted the German part of the funeral services. The floral offerings were numerous and very beautiful. The quartet's from Wamego sand some very impressive songs. Burial was in the family lot in the Evangelical Immanuel cemetery at Wells. Creek.
