Ella as a child moved with her parents to Yankton, South Dakota and in a few years the family moved to Wessington Springs, South Dakota, where they farmed until in 1932 when the family then moved to the farm of George's parents which was located about 1 1/2 miles west of Scotland, South Dakota. Ella received her elementary education through the eighth grade at the Jerauld County Schools in Wessington Springs, South Dakota and then remained at home for two years before entering high school at Scotland and graduating with the class of 1938. Ells then remained at home and worked for the Hebbert Family as a hired girl for one summer. She was united in marriage to Leif Nickolas Holm on January 17, 1940 at the Midway Lutheran Church Parsonage by Pastor O. H. Brodland. They then went farmingand lived on the former Ed English farm, northwest of Scotland, and on the following farms: Verne Behleighty, Janda farmplace east of Scotland, and then the final farm was the Dike Statter farm till 1947 when Leif's health began to fail and they moved a house into Scotland and remodeled and made themselves a home, where Ella remains living, located inthe west part of Scotland, South Dakota. Shewas baptized and confirmed into the Zion Lutheran Church of Scotland on December 21, 1952 by Pastor Fred J. Kordewich, in which she continued to belong as an active member and was also a member of theA.L.C.W. Ladies Aid. She worked out at shocking grain for farmers, shoveling coal, and helping Leif with the cement work and cleaning the City Streets. She was also employed at the Duetscher Produce and the Anderson Produce in Scotland. They unloaded coal for the City of Scotland and for the lumber company from the train cars. They also put up farm machinery for Wilbur Foss at their home inScotland for many years.
