!BIRTH: Information from the abstract of certicate of birth issued by Ev-Luth, Landeskirche of Schleswig - Holstein, Ausjug aus dem Taufbuch Jahrgang 1874, Seite 249, Nr. 56.
Johannes Sorensen From is the eldest child of Jens Mathiassen and Anna Abel From (nee-Ahmling). He was born in the village of Boken, Holstein, Germany on Monday, May 18th, 1874 and christened on Monday,June 22nd, 1874 in the Evangelical Lutheran church at Nortorf, Holstein, Germany.
His godparents were; 1. Johann Ahmling of Bunzen.
2. Claus Ahmling of Amonevath near Itzehoe.
3. Peter Ahmling of Bunzen.
After completing his military service in the German army, he married Emma Bertha Kielau and after the birth of his fourth child, Johannes immigrated to Canada.
The family - Johannes, his wife Emma, his children Otto, Bertha and Hermann (Wilhelm died of Lockjaw one week before the departure) on Friday, May 15th, 1903 left the port of Hamburg aboard the S.S. Bulgaria and arrived in Halifax, Nova Scotia on Wednesday, May 27th, 1903. He was also accompanied on the trip by his sister Anna Catharina From and her future husband Claus Boettger and his sister Frieda Boettger.
Johannes settled in Hespeler, Ontario where he was employed by the G. Forbes Co. Ltd. The family later moved to Bracebridge where the first Canadian born child, John, was born. Theyalso lived in Penetanguishene and Huntsville in Ontario and Fox Valley in Saskatchewan.
Johannes (commonly called John Sr.) became a naturalized Canadian citizen on the 10th day of December, 1914. This certificate was signed by W. H. Bowlby, Clerk of the Peace, County of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada.

JohannesFrom died on Saturday, March 12th, 1955 in the South Waterloo Memorial Hospital, Cambridge(G) and was buried on Tuesday, January 15th, 1955 in the New Hope cemetery in Cambridge(H), Ontario, Canada.
Please note that Galt, Preston, Hespeler and part of Dumfries and Waterloo Townships became the city of Cambridge in 1973.
As a note of interest, another Hespeler family - Julius Warnholz(50), his wife Marie(48) and children, Marie(22), Hermann(19), Martha(18), Emma(17), Johann(11), Anna(9), Julius(6) and Markus(4) sailed aboard the S.S.
