Obituary for Sidney K. BoydReverend Sidney Kermit Boyd, age 66, died Tuesday, March 22, 2005 at his retirement home in Waxhaw, North Carolina.
Rev. Boyd was born in Tazewell County, Virginia and was the son of the late Bert Lambert and Pansy Mae Bales Boyd. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served his country during the Vietnam War. For more than 27 years, he taught English in the public schools of Tazewell County, Virginia and later accepted a calling into the ministry, which spanned more than 18 years.
He and his wife Rev. Betty Neal Boyd served United Methodist Churches in the Holston Conference. Tip Top and Wrights Valley Churches in Virginia and in the Western North Carolina Conference including Polkton, Poplar Hill, Wightman and Mt. Vernon Churches in Anson County, Pilot View, Shoals and Whitaker?s Chapel in Surry County.
He was active in the communities in which he lived, especially in the Lions Club, Pilot Ruritan Club, Boy Scouts of America the advisory board of Anson County Hospice and the bereavement camps for children sponsored through Hospice.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Hershal and Harry Boyd.

Funeral Services for Rev. Sidney Kermit Boyd will be held Saturday, March 26, 2005 at 2:00 pm at the Hurst-Scott Funeral Chapel in Richlands, Virginia with Mr. Mike Stoots officiating. Pallbearers will be Kenny Boyd, Scott Boyd, Keith Boyd, Steve Boyd, Jim Boyd, Tim Wallace and Robert Lane. Honorary Pallbearers will be Richard Dailey and Woody Dailey. Entombment will follow in Greenhills Memory Gardens Mausoleum at Claypool Hill, Virginia. Military Graveside Rites will be conducted by the Casey-Shortt VFW Post #9640 and Tazewell County Chapter # 31 Disabled American Veterans.
The family will greet friends Friday, March 25, 2005 form 6:00 pm until 9:00 pm at Hurst-Scott Funeral Home in Richlands, Virginia..
