Confirmation Bible verse was 2 Peter 3:18. Marriage witnesses were Theodore Gotsch and Agnes Herter. Source - Pastor Marcus Zill, 11/18/1997, in a phone conversation. Pastor Rich. Kretzschmar officiated. Source - Marriage license. Ella lived at 2757 Russell in St. Louis when she applied for her marriage license. On March 25, 1927, she applied for aid under the Mothers' Pension Act in Macoupin County, Illinois. I have a copy of the application only. No other papers were found in her file with the county. So it is not known if she received that aid or not. Her place of residence is given as Shipman. Ella signed the application. Probation officer was Roy Odell. Source - Aid application. In 1939 she lived at 2819 Shenandoah Avenue in St. Louis. Source - city directory. Rosemary Ratz Gerdes' memories of Grandma include that she loved to feed people and didn't like it if they wouldn't eat. Always there was food cooking - usually roast beef with lots of mashed potatoes and gravy. She had a long braided ponytail that reached to her waist. And she loved to play Tiddly Winks. When they would go into the cup she would laugh. She and Uncle Edward had an apartment on Enright Avenue in St. Louis. She slept in an old black iron single bed against one wall and he had his bed against the opposite wall. Down the middle of the room was a small table with a long cloth. Grandma's dresser was on the adjoining wall by her rocker and bed. Uncle Edward had a chest of drawers on the wall by his bed. The kitchen was sparce, too. Only a little old square white wooden table with rickety white chairs and a nicely ironed table cloth. Her dinnerware was old heavy white stoneware. Obituary published 4/1/1969 - Ella H. Ratz (nee Gotsch), Sun., March 30, 1969, wife of the late Edward J. Ratz, dear mother of Edward J. Ratz Jr., and Roland F. Ratz, grandmother, sister-in-law, mother-in-law and aunt. Mrs. Ratz in state from noon Tues. until noon Wed. at Alexander & Sons Town Chapel, 6175 Delmar Bl. Grave side services will be held Wed., 2 P.M. at Laurel Hill Gardens. Pastor W. A. Hover of St. Marks Lutheran officiated her funeral. Source - Alexander & Sons Funeral Home. Pauline Strahan Meyers, a former neighbor of Ella's in Plainview, Illinois, remembers Ella as being a tiny woman. She was a good mother and quiet. She also remembers Ella had an eye problem so that she had to tilt her head back to better see the person with whom she was talking. Taufpaten: - Christoph Fischer - J. G. Goehringer - Elizabeth Lich - Ernestine Faulstich
