Brockmann, Francis Herman & Elisabetha NONNENKAMP

In the recording of this passing, hundreds of miles away is the finale of a history which speaks of the pioneer life of the early days of civilization and adventures of the German emigrants to the "new lands" of maternal devotion and affiliations which makes the memory of the households of the early days cherished almost in their sacredness. To those of her early acquaintance who have shared her favored allotment of time there is a feeling of pleasure in the announcement that her remains are coming back to rest in the land of early and family life.
Mary Brockman was the daughter of Bernard and Catherine Starple Brockman, born in Persian, Westphalia, February 10 1832. With her parents and her three brothers, Barney, Martin and Frank she came to this country in the year of her birth. Of the party of six on that hazardous journey all preceded the only daughter on their final journey, the brother Frank having died at Lincoln, Nebr. some six weeks ago. In February, 1841, the family were in St. Louis. They reached here April 1, 1842, remaining here sixteen days before repairing to the prairie farm seven miles west of here, later known as the Brockman homestead.
She was married May, 31, 1853 to Ferdinand POLLMILLER's and as residents of West Point township they were among the prominent families. Ten children were born to them of whom four survive. Mrs. Herman TIEKEN of Fort Madison, Mrs. Henry KRUGENMEIER of Dexter, N.M., Mrs Barney Freesmeier (at whose home the death occurred) of La Junta, and Mrs. Joseph Jansen. Mr POLLMILLER's died at West Point January 26, 1903 the couple having moved to town to a retired life a few years previous. Since the marriage of the youngest daughter Mrs POLLMILLER's spent most of her time at La Junta, with to occasional visits to the relatives here.
