Claude Ezra, Ethel Holmes Francis and Percy Holmes was born to a womanknown as Stella Brown, grave marker shows Estella Lydia (Brown) Holmes,the father was Charles Clarence Holmes, the three being born in Nebraska, believed to be the sand hill country, north central Nebraska.While the children were young the mother died and the father unable to care for them placed them in an orphanage,Percy,the eldest was adopted by a banker and his wife from Chicago, Claude adopted by Frank Fredrickand Adeline Touro Krull of the Sprague, Ne. area and it is unknown who adopted and raised Ethel Holmes Francis.As far as known Claude was about 12 years old when he went to live on the Krull farm.Some years later after Claude had been raised, schooled thru the 8th grade, left home and traveled much with Carl Crum, they returned home and Claude married Mae Krull, his niece by his relationship to the Krull family, noblood relationship, Carl Crum married Mae's sister Emma Gertrude IreneKrull. Claude and Mae lived in a number of places in Nebraska, vocations mainly being mechanic and farming.After a short time in Missouri,following the death of Mae's father, Fred Frank Krull, they returned to Nebraska, had a gas station on the old Highway 112, Crete corner fora short time and then moved to north central Nebraska to ranch in thesand hill country, near Senca and Mullen. There they lived near Claudes biological father, Charles Clarence Holmes.From this time on untilCharles death, approximately 1952, Charles (Charlie Holmes, as he wascalled) would be a part of Claudes family.When World War II started, the Claude Holmes family moved to Scottsbluff, Ne.The family is now made up of Claude, Mae, Ila, Ethelmae, Raymond Lee, Judith Pauline and Carol Ann Holmes. All the children graduated from Scottsbluff High School.Claude and Mae would live in Scottsbluff until Claudes death, he wasburied north of the city,Scottsbluff Cemetery.In 1994, Mae died and was buried beside Claude.Charles Clarence Holmes was in the Spanish American War, after his children was placed for adoption, he served in the Philippines Island, and upon returning to the US he returned to ranching in the Senca, Mullen area, he spent his latter years living withClaude and Mae, he died at the age of 88 years old and is buried at Geneva Ne.Claude's biological mother was Stella Brown, died when Cluadewas 5 years old, she died of Typhoid Fever, this would have been approximately 1894.She died at Anselmo, Ne. also, Anselmo, Ne. is the birthplace of her three children.
