According to Frank McElvain, GILBERT M'YLVEYNE was alive from1460to1537,and is said to have married a KeJUledy, sister of theEarlofCassilis. Hewas succeeded in his old age by his son Alan, andmayhavehad son David,and also John, who occurs in the REGISTURMMAGNISIGILLI1525 (GustaveAnjou)
Gilbert took over the estates in 1484. This is shown inthecharterofapprising, which states that 'Gilbert M'Ylveynehadoccupiedand,intromitted the lands of Grurnet and Attiquyne, lying intheEarldomofCarrick and Sheriffdom of Air, for the space of 45 years.'Thattakesthetime back from 1529 to 1484. In his old age GilbertM'Ylvaneturnedoverthe estates to his son, Alan, as shown in an order inthe PBGR.
According to Darrel Iwerks, records indicate that either GilbertorhissonAlan assisted in the Rescue of James III, who had beenabductedfromthecustody of Bishop Kennedy of St. Andrews, by Lord B!>yd.TheyoungKing hadbeen placed in the custody of the Bishopduringchildhood.Because of theirassistance, the MacYlveynes weregrantedadditionallands, probably anaddition to Lower Grirmnet.
