Excerpt from Marion T. Dickens family letter "Our Dickens Heritage":"URIAH DICKENS was the sixth son of the above Thomas and Mollie(Stevens) Dickens. He was born in 1802, in Chatham County, NorthCarolina. In 1833 he married Susan May and they moved to GibsonCounty, Tennessee. There he engaged in farming and had some interestin politics, we find him on the bond of the Constable and bonds in theguardianship of the Mayfield's orphans. One son had the overland mailcontract from Humboldt to Memphis. They remained there in Tennesseeuntil the Fall of 1860 when they moved to Conway County, Arkansas andsettled near Springfield. Susan died in 1863. Uriah then engaged inthe timber business and died in 1875 in Boone County. They had afamily of six sons and five daughters, viz.: Thomas M. b.1834,Humboldt, Tenn d.1910 Tyresa 1835 " d.before 1889 Emily K. 1836 "d.before 1889 Erasmus R. 1838 " d.2 May 1919 Cassandra M 1840 " m.Robert Newbery Francis Marion 1843 " d.Oct 1891 William Louis 1846 "d.12 Mch 1864 Judy A. 1848 " d.before 1889 Susan J. 1849 " m.James B.Morrow Uriah Gilliam 1852 " m.Mary Francis Polk George E. 1855 "d.before 1889 Four of his sons served in the Civil War. Theyexemplified that this was a War of brothers against brothers, forThomas M and Francis Marion and William Louis Dickens enlisted andserved in Company I of the Third Arkansas Cavalry Federal Troops andWilliam Louis Dickens died while in the service and is buried withhead stone 958 in the Federal Cemetery at Little Rock- and Erasmus Renlisted and served in Company I of the Second Arkansas Infantry,Confederates, from Newton-Pope Counties, under Colonels Thomas CHindman and Daniel O Gavan."1 Uriah was born on 18 1802 at ChathamCounty, North Carolina.
