Robert Sandfort writes: Ratert is mentioned in two records. The first shows him listed as one of the guarantors to an Urfehde or declaration of revenge in 1473. The second is a record of a tax assessement againest farm owners dated 1512.
In a foot note, Robert Sandfort writes: About 90% of the peasants in the middle ages were in bondage. So land ownership for most meant only the granted right to pass on the hereditary residence rights on the farm to their heir. The landlord could at any time sell the farm and the resident peasant family along with it. The Sandfort farm did not become free until around 1648.
The wife of Ratert is never mentioned in old records.
