Here is what I have on the Eisenzimmers so far.
I am trying to locate them in Russia or Germany but so far no luck. Itis sort of a hobby and keeps me entertained.

Notes for JOHN EISENZIMMER 1:
John was born in a small town in Germany. Name unknown.
Around this time, the Sierria (Queen) of Germany gave land to Germansnear Odessa, Russia. There was little land in Germany to support largeGerman families, so many Germans took advantage of these land grants andmoved to Russia.
Eventually, the Sierria died, and her successor did not keep theSierria's promise about the land grants.
Land was once again rationed which made supporting a family difficult.
Thus began the emigration of Germans from Russia to the United States.
JOHN 2 EISENZIMMER (EISENZIMMER1) was born in Germany. He marriedELIZABETH BURKHARD. She was born in Germany.
The oldest sons, Balzer and Leopold left the family behind and went tothe United States, which they entered through Ellis Island, New York.(Ellis Island has no record of them that I could find. Balzer'sDaughter, Regina Eisenzimmer Steffan, (Angie's Mom) said Balzer had aneye infection and he was to be sent back. Somehow they got into New Yorkand then to ND. What Balzer had was pinkeye, which cleared up. Backthen they didn't know anything about pinkeye.)
The government put many of these immigrants on trains and sent theminland. Balzer and Leopold ended up in Devils Lake, ND, and found workat Calvary Square in Fort Totten, just south of Devils Lake.
I can only imagine the bravery that these two young men must have had todo all this!
They eventually saved enough money to bring their parents and otherbrothers to the United States. All arrived safely and traveled to DevilsLake, except for John who stayed in New York to work. (There was a rumorthat he met with foul play and was never heard of again.)

He married (3) MARGARET STOPPLER, a widow (maiden nameunknown. She was born November 23, 1881, and died January 18, 1964. (InWashington I believe.)

When their son Joseph was born, Balzer is listed at 31 years old,Catherine 21. A discrepancy somewhere?
Balzer gave the date of Joe’s birth, listed as the closest memory ofthe event. (this info was given Dec.16, l941.) Nov. 30th birth, schoolrecords from Ramsey County list his birthday as the 23rd. Some other say11-18-1912
School records from St. Mary’s list it as the 30th. Birth Certificatesays November 30, 1912
Balzer signed papers as Baldaser Baldazar Another way? Baldzier(Baltzar miss spelled?) Balthasar
Died of stroke at 74. One paper said his birthday was on the 14, but therest are all 24.
Note: Grandpa Balzer Eisenzimmer had rickets as a child, perhaps causingthe bowlegs? Making him shorter?
His little burial card says he was buried July 2, 1955, so probably diedJune 29 or 30.

He stepped on a mine somewhere. Was thrown up and hit the ground. Noobvious wounds. After this he would wake up in the mornings with swollenfeet. It got bad enough he went to the Dr. (Red Cross he said). By thetime he got up and dressed and made it over to the Dr. the swelling wouldbe down. They sent him back, saying he was trying to get out of thewar. He didn't care much for the Red Cross. When he did get back, hewas put into the hospital, Hq. Baxter General Hospital SpokaneWashington. The bomb had caused bad internal injuries, that heeventually died from.

Mike's first wife died in 1924, leaving 5 kids, 10 Madadelina, (Died Dec.of 1999), the oldest, then Katherine, Mike, Frank, and 2 or 3 oldSebastian.
The step mother apparently raised them. Frank went off to war (WWII) andwas killed at a young age (very early 20's. He, by the way, has adaughter named Francesca, but we don't know where she is. Last anyone inour family knew was that she lived in Maine and was getting married, butwe don't know the married name. )
Si left home, don’t know what age or any more about him other thanthat he died around 1997 and was living in the Washington DC area.
After his first wife died Mike married Katherine Keller. One or more ofhis sons from the first marriage worked in the CCC camps building parks,roads etc. They left the home as soon as they could.
Magdelina left home at the age of 18. By that time Marie, Ray, Floyd andAlice had been born. She was aware that there were more kids after that,but she had cut all ties by then and didn't even know their names. Shenever went back to North Dakota, not even for Mike's funeral when he died- that is how bitter it was. She had a daughter, 2 months old when thathappened, I think.
