The accident occurred about 9:15 on Fleming Road, near the intersection of South Franklin street, as Mrs Daley was crossing the street. Several persons witnessed the fatality and after a coroner's jury had heard their testimony a verdict of accidental death and absolving Wright from all responsibility was rendered. The driver, who had been detained by the police, pending an investigation, was immediately released. All of the eye-witnesses agreed that Mrs Daley ran directly in front of the car and that the car was moving at only a moderate rate of speed; that Wright brought his car to a stop within ten or twelve feet after striking the woman. Members of the Daley family told the coroner's jury they were satisfied that the driver was not to blame for the death.....Carl Gustafson, who sat in front of Markley's store, called to her to watch out, but the woman was quite hard of hearing and did not hear the warning.....The body was removed to the undertaking rooms of W J Arnold, Diamond street, to be prepared for burial, and arrangements for the funeral will be made later." (Titusville Herald, May 25, 1927, pp.2, 10) "Funeral Services Friday Afternoon for Mrs Daley - Funeral services in memory of Mrs John Daley, whose unfortunate death occurred late Tuesday evening as reported in The Herald yesterday, will be conducted from the family home, 222 Barber street, Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and interment will be made in Woodlawn cemetery. Mrs Daley was in her 71st year, having been born in Buffalo, NY, October 17, 1856. In 1881 she was united in marriage with Mr Daley of Titusville and had resided here ever since. She was a member of St Paul's Reformed church and held in high esteem, her tragic death causing sorrow to all who knew her. Besides the husband, she is survived by a daughter, Mrs R W Taylor of Warren, and a son, Joseph Daley of this city. There are also five grandchildren, two sisters, and five brothers."
