John George GUMB

John Gumb, son of Phillip and Barbara (Kobberger) Gumb, was born at Bensheim, Hessendarmstadt, Germany, June 29, 1860, and came to Nebraska, in 1881. His father was born at Bensheim, and died in Chicago. He was a brick mason. His mother was also born in Bensheim, and died at Chicago. Mr. Gumb attended the public schools and the Hannstein School of Mechanics at Chicago. At the present time he is manager of the produce business conducted by the Fremont Beverage Company. In 1923, he was elected to the Nebraska state senate on the Democratic ticket, and was unsuccessful candidate in 1925. He was married to Elizabeth Catherine Nuernberger at Chicago, August 15, 1886. Mrs. Gumb was born at Peru, Illinois, August 19, 1864. There are five children, Phillip G., born May 17, 1888, married Bessie A. Dodendorf, and is assistant foreman of the car department of the Chicago and Northwestern Rairoad (sic); Fritz, born September 7, 1891, married Ada McGee, and is a musician; John, born October 7, 1895, married Hazel Whalen, and is a lawyer; Harold, born December 2, 1903, married Julia Ann Tawney, he is also a lawyer; George A., born November 2, 1908, is an accountant. Mr. Gumb is a member of St. James Episcopal Church, the United States Chamber of Commerce, the Elks, Eagles, Sons of Herman, Woodmen of the World, the Nebraska Poultry and Egg Association, and the Nebraskana Society. He is also a member of the Izaak Walton League. His hobby is mechanics. Residence: Fremont. (Photograph in Album).
