William Denny (1709–1765), A.B., Oxford, 1730; captain in the British Army; early member of the Society of Dilettanti. He was made a colonel for North America only and appointed governor of Pennsylvania in May 1756, recommended by the Duke of Cumberland as a good man for a wartime governor.
