[Update_ANSI.ged] Lehnsmaenn (Tenure Holder or Vassal of the Abbots of Corvey) Name carrier and first tenure holder. Mentioned in the First Ten ure letter 1485 and also in another 1495. Married twice. His first wife was Gertrud who is mentioned i n a document of 19 Mar 1490 so they likely married sometime befo re then. In 1509 he married a woman named Gese who was the wido w of a man named Wicbold. Theis had at least 3 sons that can be verified from documents. O ne was named Wilhelm and was born about 1500 so he is apparentl y from Thies' first marriage to Gertrud. The other two, Bertol d and Herbold, appear to be from his second marriage to Gese. Based on the dates referenced above, I estimate his birth abou t 1455. Also based on dates of documents mentioning his sons, t his seems to be a reasonable guess. The unusual spelling of his last name is possibly due to phoneti c spelling of the Doman name which seems to be the most common s pelling used in the 1300-1700 time frame. His first name is als o recorded as Thyges, Thyas, Thies, and Thiess in various docume nts -- also possibly due to phonetic spelling attempts.
