Bei Hoger oder Hoierlin (Hoger, Hoyer = „Edler, von edlen Geblüt“) handelt es sich wahrscheinlich um einen anglo-warnisch- en Adligen, der im Jahre 319 die Mühlburg erbaut haben soll. Sein Geburtsjahr kann man genealogisch um das Jahr 280 festlegen. Sein Sohn, Erpes oder Erphes („der Braune“), er- richtete nach dem Tod seines Vaters, um 325, seinen Hof in der Nähe einer Furt durch die Gera (Erfurt). Es ist anzunehmen, daß die Sippe des Hoger (*~280) und Erpes (*304) die späteren Könige der Thüringer stellte.
Als erster König der Thüringer könnte Merwig I. (Moebis) gelten, der um 329 geboren wurde.
