Eileen wrote: "Dear Ones, This note is to let you know that although Dad always promised he'd live to be 100 years old, he didn't quite make it. He was 99 years old on the 16th of May. He fought the good fight, but his heart, body and spirit grew tired and told God that enough was enough, and He released Dad from his promise while he slept on June 11, 1993. No service was held in Carlsbad. Truman and I plan to lay him to rest next to Mother in Phoenix at a later date. We feel this is what he would want. I'm sure that there are many memories of Dad out there among you. He was always a gentle, fun-loving, happy man. He loved his family, friends, music, walking, gardening, crossword puzzles, fishing, the New York Tankees and the Dallas Cowboys - but most of all he loved life. This is the way we'll remember him; this is the reason we loved him so much, and this is why we will miss him."
