Elsa was the second oldest of six children born to Albert Rathert, Sr. and Anna Gieseking. She was born on August 5, 1902 in Campbell Hill. She was received as a child of God in Holy Baptism on September 7, 1902 at St. John's, Post Oak. She madethat faith personal in the Rite of Confirmation on Palm Sunday in March of 1915. That faith sustained her for her entire life.
Elsa was joined in Holy Marriage to Herbert W. Knop on February 12, 1938 in St. Louis, Missouri. She worked at the shoe factory in Murphysboro for some years. She was a member of St. LukeLutheran Church Women. She died Monday morning, August 22nd at Pinckneyville Hospital, Pinckneyville, Illinois.
Elsa was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and two brothers, Albert, Jr. and Theodore (Tate).
Elsa is survived by her two stepsons, Paul and his wife Esther Knop of Percy and George and his wife Marie Knop of Campbell Hill. There are 9 step-grandchildren, twenty-five step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-granddaughters. Alsoher two borthers, Walter of Campbell Hill and Homer of Ava and one sister, Minnie Rieckenberg of Steeleville.
