Notizen zu dieser Person
MARIA KROLL LEISCHNER
Maria Kroll was born to August and Louise Doering Kroll on March 15, 1864, in Kulm Bessarabia, Rumania. Maria was one of eleven children: Mike, Magdaline, Adolf, Otto, Daniel, Sophie, Gottlieb, Manlin, Johann and Salome. Many of these children died at an early age.
Maria came with her parents to America in 1877. They sailed on the same ship that the Leischners did earlier that year. The name of the vessel was the "SS Mosel" and the captain was HAF Neynaber. This ship went from Bremenvia Southhampton, England to New York. It arrivied at theprot of New York on November 9, 1878. They went through immigration at "Castle "Gardens". The people would usually have to tell the immigration office where they were going. Many people from the townof Kulm came in this boat.
The Kroll family boarded a train and came directly from New York to Dakota Territory.
Only two of Maria's brothers and sisters lived to make this tripp. According to the Lutheran Church records the others died before they reached the age of one.
Maria's father dug a sod house for them to live in. It was located near Parkston, S.D. Some people say the Krolls lived in Indian Territory but the closest Indian Tribe was 60 to 100 miles away. This was about a two or three day journey. In my opinion, the krolls lived somewhere south ofthe Dry Creek Church because they helped buld this church.
Daniel Leischner and Maria kroll were married on april 10, 1881. They both lived in the Untied States for three years.
It was Maria that convinced Daniel to join the Baptist Church. Maria and Daniel were batized in 1881, by the Rev. Reichle of the Dry Creek Church. This was a very important year for Maria and Daniel becuase they were baptized, married and became homesteaders.
They were blessed with twelve children, four of whom died at infancy.
Maria lost her mother in 1906, a son in1918, and her father in 1922. She died of dropsy on November 2, 1925. Maria had lived a hard life.
