Notes for JOHANNES HANS MEYER:

 

Johannes Hans Meyer arrived in Philadelphia, Pa on 3 Sept. 1739 on the ship "Friendship" with his son Egidius Meyer and presumably with the rest ofhis family. He purchased land from Richard Penn in the Manor of Andulhea which was described as

being on the Swatara Creek. However, the actual land acquired by Johannes Hans was on branches ofthe Tulpehocken Creek. The original warrant was to Richard Penn. The land purchased by Johannes Hans was 141 1/2 acres, surveyed the 25th day of

June 1741and patented 8 April 1751.

 

Family Register and life of Reverand Phillipp Mayer states in the year 1740, a company of men with their families left their homesteades and came to this country landing in August in Philadelphia, Philadelphia Co., PA.

"In the name of the Holy and High Trinity, I Johannes Moyer of Tulpehocken Township in Berks Co. in my advanced Age in mature and Christian like consideration of Death indeed known to all Men but theTime uncertain, have set my Thoughts there

on in all good Order to appoint how it shall be held after my Death, which probably is not far distant, God grant it may be happy, as well with my Corps as with my estate which I leave behind me. As I am prepared to put my Last Will in writing

and my Testament in such manner to make and leave behind me. That I before all things commending my poor, tho, thru the Blood of Christ, dear to everlastingLife, Redeemed Soul, To God the Heavenly Father to receive in everlasting Happiness,

but my decayed Corps to the Heirs I leave behind me in order to receive a Christian Burial I have chosen as Executors my two Sons namely George Meyer and Henry Meyer. First I will my Son George Meyerthe place to wit, 120 Acres with the

Dwelling House Barn Stabling Stillhouse for which he must give outto his Brothers and Sisters two hundred Pounds of which he must give 20 pounds yearly till the two hundred pounds are paid and thesetwo hundred pounds shall be divided in equal

Parts, to wit, toGideon Mayer, Anna Barbara Wolff, Eva Catharina Stettler, the Children of Catharina Deissinger and the Children of Valentine Mayer-George Mayer shall in an half Year after my Death give the first payment, to wit, twenty pound

to Gideon Mayer, the following Year therof twenty pound to Anna Barbara Wolff and the third Year 20 pound to Eva Catharina Stettler and the fourth year 20 pound to theChildren of Catharina Deissinger and I have chosen George Wolff as Guardian

for these Children to receive the twenty pounds for these Children as Guardian and put the same out for the profit ofthe children and the Children shall not receive their Money into their own Hands each a Share, until they are married- The

fifth Year 20 pound to the Children of Valentine Mayer and I have chosen Frederick Wolff as Guardian over these Children and he shall receive the Money for them and lay it out to their profit and they shall not receive it into their Hands till

they are married- the Sixth Year he must pay again to Gideon Mayer 20 pound the seventh Year 20 pound to Anna Barbara Wolff, the eighth Year 20 pound to Eva Catharina Stettler, the ninth Year 20 pound to Catharina Deissinger and the tenth Year

20 pound to the Children of Valentine Mayer- George Mayer must allow Henry Mayer the Roght of the Water in the Mill race as it ran in my Life Time and Henry has a Right to use the Race once a Year when there is no grass in the Meadow.

 

Secondly I will to my Son Henry Mayer the Mill & House and 20 acres of Land- for which he must give out to his fivebrothers and Sisters Hundred pounds and that on payments each payment 10 pounds andone half Year after my Death he shall pay 10

pound to Gideon Mayer, and the Second Year 10 pound to Anna Barbara Wolff and the third Year 10 pound to Eva Catharine Stettler the fourth Year 10 pound to Catharina Deissinger, the fifth Year 10 pound to Valentine Mayer's Children which

Guardian shall put outto their profit and they shall receive nothing thereof in Hand till they are married the sixth Year 10 pound the Gideon Mayer the seventh Year 10 pound to Anna Barbara Wolff the eighth year 10 poundto Eva Catharina

Stettler the ninth Year 10 pound to Catharina Deissinger's Children the 10th year 10 pound to Valentine Mayer's Children

 

4thly I bequeath to my Wife Anna Maria Mayer of the Personal Estate 10 pound Money in Hand and the Interests of twenty pound Yearly during her Life and twenty Bushels of Grain Yearly to with 16 Bushels of Wheat and four Bushels of Rye ofwhich

George Mayer must give Yearly 8 Bushels of Wheat and 2 Bushels of Rye and Henry Also as much so long as she lives- then George and Henry Mayer must give her together Yearly 50 pound of Beef and 80 pound of Pork if she raises no hog but if she

Herself shall Yearly raise a Hog they are to give her no pork- When the Apples hit so that one may make Cyder George Meyer must give her two Barrels of Cyder Yearly- George must permit her Yearly in the Spring to chuse one Cow in the Stable for

her own use so long as she lives but the Calf to belong to George. After her death thecow to revert to George Mayer- the Bed and the Chest and linnen therin she shall keep- George Mayer must give her Yearly 10 pound hatchel'd Hemp as long as

she lives- George Mayer shall have thebrown pacing Mare per advance for which if the mother inclines to ride any where he must give her the same mare to ride All this she shall have as long as she lives but what shall remain after Deathshall

again revert to my Heirs- she shall also have an Iron pot- a pewter Soup Bason as also one Dish and half Dozen Pewter plates as also an half Dozen pewter Spoon and also have a pan and an Iron Kittle as long as she lives.

 

5thly They shall sell the Moveable Goods at Vendue what remains after the Mother has the above 30 pound therfrom- the Remainder they shall divide inequal Parts among them- the Town Waggon is to George Mayer

 

6thly Catharina Deissinger shall have nothing of the Personal Estate, But her Children or the Guardian shall receive it for the Children as the other and lay it out to their profit.

 

Also George Mayer shall provide fire Wood for my wife as long as she lives and the Seat in the House as long as she lives

 

In certain Testimony whereof and in Confirmation of the same I have this with my Seal sealed and with my Hand subscribed by Subscribing Witnesses --- Tulpehoccon the 28th December1765.

microfilm. There are some minor differences from the copy found in Schuyler Brossman's Column. The original translator in places tended to use a dash, instead of a period, which I also used.
