Dr. Robert J. "Arch" McCormley, 87, of North Huntingdon, formerly of North Versailles, died Monday, Dec. 26, 2016, in UPMC East, Monroeville. He was born June 22, 1929, in Clairton, and was the son of the late Joseph and Katherine "Kitty" Flynn McCormley. Dr. McCormley was a graduate of Clairton High School and received his chemistry degree from Pitt. His career began as a chemist for the Pennsylvania Industrial Chemical Co., then, while still working in the lab at Picco, attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine, graduating in 1962. He began his dental practice in 1962 in East McKeesport, until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of St. Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church in East McKeesport, the Western Pennsylvania Dental Society and was also a member and past president of the Pitt Dental School Alumni Association. Arch was an Army veteran. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ida Jean Silberman McCormley; children, Dr. Ben (Kristin) McCormley, Dr. Michelle Kisiel-Cohen (Jeff), and Amy O'Hara, PHD.; grandchildren, Alex, Sarah and Katie Kisiel, Matthew and Jacob McCormley and Eva and Aengus O'Hara; brothers, Joseph, William and Dr. Don McCormley; and nieces and nephews.
Friends are welcome from 3 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016, at the GILBERT FUNERAL HOME AND CREMATORY INC., 1638 Lincoln Way, White Oak, 412-672-6322, Troy J. Gilbert, director. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016, in St. Robert Bellarmine Church with the Rev. John Brennan, officiating. Private entombment will be in the Good Shepherd Cemetery Mausoleum, Monroeville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at 412-919-1100, or your favorite charity. Condolences may be made at www.gilbertfuneralhomeandcrematory.com.
