Richard August Bamford died Tuesday, February 28, 2012 in Oklahoma City at 93 years of age. Richard was born August 12, 1918 in Homeville, Pennsylvania to Richard and Marie (Traud) Bamford. He worked for Bamford Brothers Bus Company before serving in the United States Army during WWII. After returning from the war, he worked for the Dodge Motor Company and then as manager at the Acme Tool and Die Company in Detroit, Michigan. On July 31, 1945 he married Mildred L. Matthews at the St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Okmulgee. Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, traveling but mostly spending time with his family.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife Mildred L. Bamford on September 1, 2000, his parents Richard and Marie Bamford, one brother Howard Bamford, and an infant son Matthew Richard Bamford.
He is survived by two daughters: Jeanne M. Campbell and husband David B. of Stillwater, and Patricia A. Merewether and husband Bruce of Michigan, grandchildren: Jennifer Campbell of Washington DC, Thomas Campbell of Stillwater, Laura Suzanne and husband John of Tennessee, and Jeffery Merewether of Michigan, great grandchildren: Andrew, Cameron, Devin and Zoe Suzanne of Tennessee, one brother E. Jack Bamford and one sister Marion Cauley both of Florida.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, March 2, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Okmulgee. Interment will follow at the Okmulgee Cemetery. Friends may view Richard at the McClendon-Winters Funeral Home in Okmulgee on Thursday from 1:00 – 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary service beginning at 7:00 P.M. The family request memorial contributions be made to the St. Anthony Catholic Church in Okmulgee or to the St. Francis Stephen Ministry of Stillwater.
