Harold J. Hal Suess, 90, of Bethlehem, entered the nearer presence of the Lord, Monday, January 24, 2011, while in the care of St. Lukes Hospice House, Lower Saucon Township. He and his wife Jeanne (Schaffer) Suess were married 66 years last April. Born in Bethlehem, he was the son of the late Alfred C. and Bertha (Flammer) Suess. Hal was a graduate of Liberty High School, class of 1938 and Moravian College in 1947. He served with the US Marine Corps as Captain during World War II, was flight qualified and flew Corsairs from an aircraft carrier and he later served as an Executive Officer of the local Marine Corps Reserves. Hal was proprietor of Bethlehem Fence Works, founded by his father in 1903, retiring in 1994. Hal served on the Board of Directors of the First Star Savings Bank and Greater Bethlehem Savings and Loan and was an active member of the Bethlehem Chamber of Commerce. Hal was instrumental in the formation of the Lehigh Valley Industrial Parks. He was a member of Edgeboro Moravian Church of Bethlehem where he served as Trustee, usher and Sacristan. Hal was a member of H. Stanley Goodwin Free & Accepted Masons #648 of Bethlehem, Lehigh Consistory Valley of Allentown, and the Tall Cedars, Forest #61. He was also a member of the Saucon Valley Country Club and served Meals on Wheels for 25 years.

Survivors: Beloved wife; daughters, Cheryl Ann Molinari and her husband, Francis, and Kathy Louise Emeigh and her husband, Paul, all of Bethlehem; sons, Dr. Gregory N. Suess and his wife, Peggy, of Annandale, VA, and John X. Heart and his wife, Barbara, of Glendale, CA; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandsons. Hal was preceded in death by his sister, Alberta E. Muhr; and a brother, Bernhard Suess.

Services: Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 27, in Edgeboro Moravian Church, 645 Hamilton Ave, Bethlehem, followed immediately by a reception.
