Davis, 52, of Elk Rapids, died Sunday at Traverse City Osteopathic Hospital. Born in Boyne City Aug. 15, 1923, he was the son of Mabel (Cripps) and Edward J. Davis. in Boyne City on June 5, 1945 he married his wife, Pauline, who survives. He was a lifelong resident of northern Michigan, employed as an industrial arts teacher at Elk Rapids High School for 29 years, a member of the United Methodist Church of Elk Rapids, past president of the Elk Rapids Rotary Club, and a member of Elk Rapids Lodge 275 F&AM. He enjoyed all sports, and coached basketball and football teams at Elk Rapids High School. He was also a member of the Michigan Sages and on the board of the Elk Rapids Golf Club. A waist gunner on a BI7, he was stationed in northern Italy with the Army during WWII. Preceeding him in death was his father, Edward Davis. Surviving are his wife, Pauline; two sons and two daughters, his mother, Mabel Davis of Boyne City: two brothers, Kenneth and Warren, both of Boyne City; three, sisters, Ellen Robinson of West Branch, Louella Mitten and Gwendolyn Bryan, both of Boyne City; and one grandchild. The funeral will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Elk Rapids middle school gymnasium. The Rev. Robert Doner Will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Elk Rapids.
