Based on land trnsaction records it is believed that Tully owned agreat deal of land in lower Greenville County SC and that he probably hada small plantation with slaves. On November 27, 1861 joined theConfederate 16th Volunteer Infantry and was discharged on May 12, 1862 byreason of substitution, which means that someone served the remainder ofhis enlistment for him. (con't see James Ira). Tully lost his land after the war and is believed to have lived inAlabama and Georgia for a while. It is unsure when Tully returned to SC,but he is listed several times in land transaction records as purchasingland in Pickens County where he lived until his death.
