BIOGRAPHIE: From Heritage of Fayette County Iowa 1996 - Fayette County Historical Society - Gerald Henry Westendorf , son of Henry and Effie (Conklin) Westendorf, was born on a farm near Alpha, Eden township on 1/27/1915. He was the third of six children born to them; Emma, Irwin, Gerald, Martha, Elva, and Shirley. Gerald attended the Alpha school and graduated from there in 1932. He worked for various farmers and was employed at Doscher Implement until being called to military service 3/26/1941. His basic training was at Camp Bowie, Texas, and in Louisiana. He was in the Redhorse Group Co. B. 113 Calvary MECZ Reconnaissance Squadron. He served overseas in Normandy, Northern France, Begium, Holland, and Germany under Col. William S. Biddle and Lt. Col. Allen D. Hulse. From 7/14/1944 to 7/9/1945 they endured 309 days of fierce combat and travelled 800 miles. He was discharged 10/29/1945. He was employed by his brother at the Alpha garage. He married Adeline McIntyre, daughter of William and Agnes (Sellers) McIntyre, at the Little Brown Church 3/25/1946. They lived in Alpha for three years, and 3/1/1949 started farming on the Aulden Roger farm near Hawkeye. They purchased the Ted Alton farm east of Alpha 3/1/1950 and lived there until Gerald's death 3/11/1989. They had four sons who all graduated from the North Fayette County Scool. Roger married Mary Reisner of Sumner 2/4/67. Their children are Erin, Nathan, and Sarah. Rodney married Mary Cline of West Union 9/6/69. Their children Todd, Matthew and Jodi. David married LeAnn Ruroden of West Union 8/21/76. They have no children. Craig married Julie Pickar of Sumner 5/15/82. They had Heidi and Katie. They were divorced and 7/30/88 he married Marcia Decker White of Waukon. They have Tiffiany. Craig also has two stepchildren, Alisha and Nicholas White.
