Birth: Mar. 16, 1926 Death: Jun. 18, 2005 Burial: Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church Cemetery Farmington Jefferson County Wisconsin, USA -- Zickert, Roy W. Sr. WATERTOWN - Roy W. Zickert Sr., age 79, of Watertown, died Saturday, June 18, 2005, at Beverly Terrace Nursing Home in Watertown. He was born in the town of Medina, March 16, 1926, the son of Arnie and Ruth (nee Meyer) Zickert. He was married to Myrtle Bankert Feb. 16, 1947, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, Concord, Wis. Roy was employed by Oliver Construction and later by the city of Watertown for the Park and Recreation Department. Following his retirement he worked for Stade Auction & Realty Co., the golf courses at the Watertown Country Club and Windwood Country Club until his decline in health. Roy, known as R.Z., was a member of the Immanual Evangelical Lutheran Church in Farmington. Roy had a true love for auctions. Even truer than his love for auctions was his love for his grandchildren. If the grandkids were playing soccer, baseball or basketball, or showing horses and sheep, you could be sure to find Roy at those events, supporting his grandchildren every inch of the way. But nothing could bring a bigger smile to his face and a sparkle to his eye than his two great-granddaughters. Roy is survived by his wife, Myrtle Zickert of Watertown; a son, Roy Jr. "Butch" (Barb) Zickert of Watertown; a daughter, Beverly (Larry) Strobel of Watertown; a sister, Geneva Kuhl of Marshall; a brother, Jim (Alice) Zickert of Sun Prairie; four grandchildren, Matt Zickert, Tim (Jana) Strobel, Christy (Denny) Stair and Mike Strobel; two great-grandchildren, Christin and Allison Stair; and is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnie and Ruth. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2005, at 7 p.m. at the IMMANUAL EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH, Farmington, Wis. The Rev. Richard Pagels will officiate with burial in Immanual Lutheran Cemetery, Farmington. The visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of the service. Memorials to Immanual Evangelical Lutheran Church or the charity of the donor's choice are appreciated. The family would also like to give a special thanks to the nursing staff at Beverly Terrace and Asera Care Hospice for their outstanding care. Hafemeister Funeral Home, Watertown, is in charge of the arrangements.
