1. Was a soldier in the Civil War. Company D, MO Sharpshooter's, Searcy's
Battalion, Owen's Company, C.S.A.; rank of private.
2. Personal description from the military records: (1864) age 35 years,
5'8", hazel eyes, black hair, dark complexion, farmer.
3. First enlisted 10 Oct 1861 and reenlisted in 1862. Participated in
battles at Pea Ridge, Lexington, Prairie Grove, Lone Jack, Helena,
Independence, Marks Mill, Jenkins Ferry, Prison Springs, Little Rock
and Pine Bluff.
4. Was a patient in the Confederate States General Hospital at Shreveport,
LA on 17 Apr 1865; diagnosis of rubella or three-day measles. He
returned to duty 20 Apr 1965.
5. Surrendered with Company D of Searcy's Batallion at New Orleans, LA on
26 May 1865. Paroled at Alexandria, LA 7 Jun 1865 and returned to
Chariton county, MO (parole certificate #2281).
6. John Tandy Brockman was 73y-6m-12d of age when he died; Elizabeth (Dille)
Brockman was aged 82y-11m-27d at her death.
7. John Tandy Brockman had owned a 90 acre farm about 1 mile S of
Bynumville, MO. The house was torn down just before Highway 129 was
extended south from Bynumville. The smokehouse was still standing just
west of the highway in 1963. (information from G.E. Dille)
8. Elizabeth (Dille) Brockman died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J.J.
Sears in Aledo, Texas of bronchial asthma.
