Valentin Bruckmann, weaver by occupation, was a very close friend of Hildebrnad. Not only was he a witness to Hildebrand's will, but he also sang at Hildebrand's funeral. After the sudden exodus in 1764, Valentin forever abandoned the idea of returning to Sandy Hook. He sold his house there to Samuel Eckerlin and soon drifted away from Ephrata.

At court held for Frederick County the 4th day of June 1765, this last will and testament of Hillebrand Inaebenent deceased was produced in court by Samuel Ekerlin, one of the executors therein named who made oath thereto and same being proved by the oaths of George Keller and Valentine Brookman, two of the witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of the said Samuel who entered into and acknowledged bond with Woolrich Sobingn? his security in the penalty of five hundred pounds conditioned for his true and faithful administration of the said estate. Certificate is granted to him for obtaining a probate in due form.

Johann Valentin Brukmann, was a monk with the Ephrata Cloister, when he first
came to Americia, then he moved to Sandy Hook in Stasburg, Virginia, then later
moved back to Ephrata Cloister because of Indian raids in Virginia.
He found a wife in PA. and married then moved back to Virginia around Stasburg area.

They had children -- One named William Brookman--The other one Samuel Brookman and
I think a John Brookman.
William and Samuel Brookman moved to Jefferson county, Illinois and that is where
they set up roots, My husband was born and raised in Jefferson county, Illinois and
went to the Brookman farm which is still owned be Brookmans today.
