Sister Alice (Edmund Campion) Miller, IHM July 31, 1934-Feb. 5, 2009 Sister Alice Miller, IHM, 74, died Thursday, Feb. 5, in Mercy MemorialHospital, Monroe. Sister Alice was one of seven children, three boys and four girls, ofGeorge and Marie (Kersting) Miller. She was born July 31, 1934, inDetroit and given the name Alice. Sister Alice attended St. MatthewElementary School and Dominican High School in Detroit. She became amember of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary inMonroe in 1952, taking the religious name of Sister Edmund Campion. Sister Alice earned a bachelor's of science degree from MarygroveCollege and a master's degree, also from Marygrove. She earned anassociate's degree in gerontology from Wayne State University. Shetaught in formal education for 15 years at St. Cecilia, Detroit; St.Mary, Marshall; St. Raymond, Detroit; and Sacred Heart, Roseville. After her years in formal education, Sister Alice became religiouscoordinator in the Thumb Deanery, the Diocese of Saginaw, where sheministered for three years. Sister Alice continued her ministry as ateacher and pastoral associate at St. Hugo of the Hills, BloomfieldHills, and St. Rene Goupil, Sterling Heights. After one year, shebecame the full-time pastoral minister at St. Rene and stayed therefor 12 years. In 1985, Sister Alice served as pastoral minister at St.Anne, Warren, where she remained in active ministry until her death. Sister Alice is survived by her brothers, James and Charles, and hersisters, Rosemarie McClain, Elizabeth Bradley and Sister Marie (MarieGeorge) Miller, IHM, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, George. Visitation will be held at the IHM Motherhouse, 610 W. Elm Avenue,Monroe, on Sunday, Feb. 8, from 2 until 7:30 p.m., with a Rememberingat 3 p.m. The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated in theChapel on Monday, Feb. 9, at 10 a.m., with the Rev. Justin Kelly, SJ,as presider. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery on theMotherhouse Campus. Funeral arrangements are under the direction ofthe Rupp Funeral Home, Monroe. Memorials may be made to the IHM Retirement Fund, 610 W. Elm Ave.,Monroe, MI 48162-7909.
