elkedewitt46 Hello JMincone, thanks for your message.
You are right: The Dittmer Family is not connected with our family. Not really, and maybe not yet yet,I mean :-)
Because: I am looking for one special person, one Peter de Witt, born about 1795, with a father Jan, who settled in our region, and according to our church records they came from Southern Dithmarschen in Slesvig Holstein ( Schleswig Holstein).

At about the same time came a young man from Southern Dithmarschen, whose name was Claas Schlichting ( this is also the name of a towna little bit North from Dithmarschen), born around the same time, who had threechildren with a woman named Antje Reiners (1803-1867). unmarried. One of their daughters was Claasje Sophie Schlichting ( 1836-1895) who married in 1878 one Johann Hinrich Dittmers ( 1833-1899). THis was his second marriage.

I have more information about the Dittmers family, which I gathered from our church records. In case you want them I could send you the dates from our church register.

You have documents and pictures? Well, what I am looking for is a (probably) missing link between the de Witt family and the Dittmers. If I only knew more about this Claas Schlichting, maybe I could find a connection. Did he travel South with "our"Peter together, around 1800? Were there any family members?
That's what I want to know.

If you know more, I'd love to hear this from you.
Thanks
Elke de Witt

elkedewitt46e Dittmer family is in any way connected with ours. There was just a coincidence: One Claas Schlichting ( who had three children with Antje Reimers but wasn'tmarried) who was about the same age as our Peter de Witt ( born about 1795 , place of birth unknown) both mentioned in our church records as being from "Süder-Dithmarschen. Both young men settled at about the same time in two different parishes only about ten miles apart. And both seemed to have a profession connectedwith ships and masonry, but otherwise there is no obvious trace they have in common. I listed the "Schlichting" ancestor in my family tree, just in case therewas someone who had a clue if there were indeed some connection.
You mentioned documents. Are there any documents giving a hint where this Claas Schlichtingcame from? And did he come alone and did he come by ship? Those would be the hints that might get me any further in my research. Are there?

lkedewitt46 Hi John,
Wow! What a website you've created! You wanted to know why I have the Dittmers on my homepage? Well, Ithink I answered this: Because I wanted to know more about Claas Schlichting. Iwanted to contact someone who had him on their genealogical radar. John, I havecopies of some pages of the "Ortssippenbuch Westerbur 1556 - 1900" and of "Die Familien der Kirchengemeinde Dornum 1706-1900) by Jens Ottersberg, published by Upstalsboom-Gesellschaft Aurich. I copied some items for you and I'd send them toyou if only I knew where to. ;-))) Would you be so kind to give me an email address? Greetings: Elke de Witt (fisherman's wife in Dornumersiel, age 65)
