From "Geneology of Anthony Heisserer" page 65: Obituary in part:(386) Funeral services for William H. Heisserer, 61 years old, for many years a prominent merchant and banker here and one of ScottCounty's leading citizens, who died suddenly at 2:45 o'clock Thursday afternoon in the Circuit court room here, will be held at 10 o'clock Saturday morning in St. Denis Catholic Church here (Benton,MO). Services will be conducted by Rev. Christian Hoffschwelle, pastor. Interment will be in the cemetery at the church. (Died August 20, 1928) Heisserer has been testifying in a lawsuit, and after leaving the witness stand had seated himself behind Attorney B. Hugh Smith. He suddenly slumped forward in his chair and died within a few moments. Born at Commerce Jan. 10, 1967, Heisserer spent his entire life in Scott County and had resided at Benton a greater portion of that time. For nearly 40 years he had conducted the Heisserer general store here and had been at the store Thursdaymorning to wait on customers. He was president of the Bank of Benton from the time it was organized in 1903 until it closed a short time ago. At one time he was a director of the Southeast MissouriAgricultural Association. Heisserer had held county offices, was active in public life, and had been a member of the Catholic Church at Benton since its organization. Heisserer was preceded in death by his father Vincent Heisserer, three years ago, and by his mother, 20 years ago. Emma (Burger) was one of triplets. She was stricken with a second heart attack, after attending the nine o'clockMass at St Denis Church Christmas morning, and passed away that afternoon. The first attack had been suffered Christmas Eve. She was born a few miles northwest of Benton in the old Dirnberger settlement. They started housekeeping over the Heisserer Store. When this burned down they build a home in 1903. This house burned in 1904 and another was erected on the same site. - 6 Children - Page 66 - SCOTT COUNTY NEWSBOY - January 23, 1892 William H. Heisserer, treasurer of Scott County, was born at Commerce, MO. on January 10, 1867. He is the son of Vincent Heisserer (who was elected treasurer of this county in 1874 and served until succeeded by William) and Katherine Dirnberger, who is well known and has many relatives in the neighborhood of New Hamburg. William H. was educated at the common schools of our county and at St. Vincent's College, Cape Girardeau. On February 9, 1889 he took unto himself, Miss Emma Burger of New Hamburg as his wife. At that time he entered into the mercantile business in Benton, with his father and a year later, opened upa business for himself In 1890 he received the Democrat nomination for treasurer and was elected at the general election. He has one daughter-Estella. NOTE: This article was from the newspaper "Scott County Newsboy" which was found in a jar in the corner stone of an old building which was torn down in order to build a new one for Magistrate Court.It was located near the Court House in Benton, Missouri. Spring of 1978.
