Mr. and Mrs. Leo Tenkhoff of Oran received a telegram Thursday from the War Department informing them that their son, T-Sgt. Wallace J. Tenkhoff, 20, was killed in action in the invasion of Normady,June 8. (1949) No further details were given except to say that he died on French soil.
Sgt. Tenkhoff one of six sons of the Oran couple in the armed forces, was inducted Feb 24, 1943, and trained at Camp Jackson, S.C., and Camp Forrest, Tenn., landing in England last Dec. 15 and participating in the invasion of Hitler's Europe. He was a graduate of the high school at Oran and before entering service was employed in the Womack Drug Store at Oran. He was a member of a combat engineers' unit.
He is survived by his parents and five brothers, all of whon are in the armed services. They are Sgt. Bernard Tenkhoff, serving in the Marine Corps in the Pacific; Sgt. Glennon Tenkhoff, stationedwith the Army in Iceland; Corp. C. J. Tenkhoff, at Camp Howze, Tex., T-Sgt. Jerome Tenkhoff, stationed at Pittsburgh, Cal., and Pvt. Germain Tenkhoff, stationed at Camp Roberts, Ca.
