Gilbert A. Hamm 1926-1998 (09) ORAN – Gilbert A. Hamm, 71, died at 4:42 p.m. March 16, 1998, at the Advance Nursing Center. Born Sept 27, 1926, at Oran, son of Irmina Caroline Dannemueller Hamm of Oran and the late Leo Hamm, he retired as a self-employed farmer and carpenter and was a U.S. Merchant Marines veteran of World War II. He was a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church, St. Joseph Sodality, Knights of Columbus Council 4311 and Morley Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5368. On Sept 1, 1948, he married Bertha Enderle who survives of the home in Oran. Survivors in addition to his wife and mother include: two sons, Michael Hamm of Benton and Alan Hamm of Oran; two daughters, Pam Whitfield of San Antonio, Texas, and Paula Hatfield of Oran; one brother, Melvin J. Hamm of Benton; three sisters; Luelle Kielhofner of Oran and Doris Mae Pekarek and Carol Ann Welter of Cape Girardeau; and eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Wednesday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Oran, where parish prayers at 6:30 p.m. will be followed by a Knights of Columbus prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday atGuardian Angel Catholic Church with the Rev. Lewis Hejna officiating. Burial will follow in the Guardian Angel Catholic Cemetery.
