Martin Zettelmeyer was born about 1776 to Johannes Martin and Margaret Zettelmeyer; he died 1833. Martin married Elizabeth (surname unknown), who was born 17 Mar 1779 and died 5 Nov 1849. They lived in Windsor Twp, Berks Co PA. According to the 1820 census, they were both 26-45 and they had one male and two females aged 10-16, and five males under 10. In 1830 he was listed as age 40-50, his wife was 50-60, and there was one female 20-30, three males 15-20, and one male under 5. Based upon baptismal and death records, censuses and the wills of Martin and his father, plus an analysis of the families of his brothers and first cousins, I have been able to identify the names of seven of eight probable children. Catherine had a baptismal record; Martin, David and Peter were named in their father’s will; and John was named in his grandfather’s will. Isaac was identified in a petition for guardian. I believe that Jonas was also Martin’s son. Martin and Elizabeth were the sponsors for the baptism of Theresa Rausch, daughter of Peter and Elizabeth Rausch, on 11 Sep 1825 in Smoke Church. Martin left a will which was written in German. Elizabeth and Peter Zettlemoyer reported an estate value of $423.68¼ in their account dated 7 Aug 1835. (Vol. 12, page 124, Berks Co PA Orphans Court Records) At Elizabeth’s death, "Martin Zettlemeyer, son of Elizabeth Zettlemeyer of Windsor Township" was appointed to administer her estate on 16 Nov 1849. Martin and Elizabeth had eight children: Catherine Zettelmeyer—born 15 Feb 1805. Her baptismal record did not disclose the year of birth, but according to the census, she was born between 1804 and 1810. She was baptized on 7 Apr to Martin and Elizabeth Settelmayer in the New Jerusalem (Dunkel's) Church in Greenwich Twp, Berks Co PA (see baptismal records at ); Martin and Margaret Settelmeyer were the sponsors. female Zettelmeyer—born between 1804 and 1810. I think her name may have been Mary—there appears to be some relationship to a Yenser family. In the l870 census for Greenwich Twp, George Yenser, 62 and wife Mary, 63, had children William, 22; Wilson, 20; and Sarah, 17. Also in their home is Fanny (Mary) Zettelmoyer, 17, a servant. I believe that she was a daughter of Isaac Zettelmoyer, a brother of this child. In the same census, Jonas Zettelmoyer, another brother, had in his household a William Yenser, age 3. These are clues that suggest, but not prove, her identity—she may have been the wife of George Yenser. Martin Zettelmeyer Peter Zettelmeyer—born 24 Jun 1810 and died 13 Nov 1849. David Zettelmeyer Isaac Zettelmeyer John Zettelmeyer—born about 1816. Jonas Zettelmeyer—born about 1819-1820. I believe that he married Catherine Lesher on 7 Apr 1860 in Berks Co PA.
