The Shaw clan is derived from Shaw MacDuff, who was a youngersonoftheThane of Fife. The Glasgow Commissariat August 20 1643 mentions JulianaSchaw,spouseofJohn McIlvaine of Grimmet. Her will names daughtersAnneandJulianeMcIlvaine. Unlike England where the woman's propertyandwealthbecamethe husband's in Scotland they had equal rights topropertyand toheadfamilies.
