Hi Dean, This is what I have on Elias Crouse: 1860 Federal Census from Clarksburg, Harrison Co., VA (WV) 1870 Federal Census from Johnstown, Cambria Co., PA 1904 Obituary fron Johnstown newspaper 1905? Death certificate. Information from phone call to Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown, PA His obit says he was born on Roherstown, Lancaster Co., PA in 1826. The Confederate Army records that I came across said he never showed upwhen called. The 1860 Census showed him and his wife and 3 kids. The 1870 Census showed him, his wife, and 5 children. His obit said he died at his son's house in Johnstown, PA. I don't know anything about his parents or siblings. I've been scanningthe 1830 and 1840 census records for Lamcaster Co., but have foundnothing concrete as of yet. His wife - Susan Jane McMillen - died in 1876. Her will and obit mentioned nothing at all of her husband Elias! The 1880 Census shows their two younger children living with John H.Crouse(brother). Husband: Elias S. Crouse, b. 1826, d. 12/6/1904 Wife: Susan Jane McMillen, b. 1831, d. 8/30/1976 Children: Harry(Harvey?) Crouse, b. 1852 John Henry Crouse, b.8/20/1855, d. 10/2/1919 Emma Crouse, b. 1861 Gertrude A. Crouse, b. 1862, After 1920 Charles E. Crouse, b. September 1864, d. After 1920 Except for birth year and a possible place of birth, I know nothing ofElias. In 1860 he is found in Clarksburg, Harrison County Virginia (soonto be West Virginia). He is working as a coach maker, and is startinghis family. I don't know if he served during the Civil War, butapparently his family moved during this time to Johnstown, Pa. His wifecontinued to produce offspring during this time so I assume he wassomewhere nearby. Her family (a brother, at least) was in the JohnstownCensuses of 1850 and 1860. Since she left all her worldly possesions tohim(to be distributed to her children as he saw fit), I assume they movedthere to be near her family. However, in genealogy, many, many of myassumptions are wrong. When you get the time, I would appreciate finding out what you know ofJacob Crouse. Between the two of us, maybe we can find out about their parents. Thanks, Don McNeil
