Abram Isakowitsch emigrated in 1890 from Riga to London, wherre he worked as a tilor. The family lived in Witechapel, then in Bethnal Green. In about 1900 Abram befriened a Welsh publican by the nameof Harris, who helped him to assume a new identity- he becam Abraham Harris. This was done to secure a liquor licence from authorities who weere hostile towards the Eastern European Jewish Immigrants.Abraham Harris operated a few pubs ( The Bricklayer'Äs Arms Inn) on Mile ERnd Road, The Rose and the Crown in Sitalfields and the Sir Sydney Smith Pub.
