From "The Genealogy of the Duflot Family 1856-1956 by Joseph LeoDuflot":
"Bertha Blanche was born in Paducah, KY April 8, 1888. Hereducation too, was limited to the grade school. On Oct. 14, 1917, shemarried Robert Jetton Patterson, for many years a shoe salesman forEndicott Shoe Company. When they moved to Houston he represented thePittsburgh Steam Heating Co. One child, William Rowen, was born tothem. Bertha died in Houston Feb. 14, 1932, one week before her motherpassed away. Robert died in June 1932. They are buried in State LineCemetery, Texarkana.
I believe it was in Sept. 1924 that Superintendent R. B. Cousinsinvited me to give a series of lectures to an institute of Houstonteachers that I had the good fortune of visiting with the Pattersons. Ihad had very little opportunity toknow Robert but he impressed me onthis visit as being a rather reserved man, well informed on currentevents, quite polished in dress and conversation.
Bertha was a keen witted girl and a most versatileconversationalist. She was an excellent seamstress and made all of herhouse and formal dresses equal in style and taste to those sold inwomen's smart shops. I shall never forget the pride she took in showingme her accomplishments in tailoring clothes for herself and family and infurnishing her home with draperies, curtains, coverslips, and otherproducts of her stitchy fingers. I love all of my sisters but Bertha, during herlifetime, seemed to have been my favored one."
Bertha is buried in the Masonic section of State Line Cemetery,Texarkana, AR. Also Pat Patterson, Albertine Duflot Compton, Mary J.Compton, and Bertha's parents, Albert and Marie A. Duflot.
Cousin Fannon Thompson said that Bertha is buried in Houston whereshe died. Cemetery unknown. He said she died of breast cancer.Bertha's husband was a traveling salesman and sold radiators for onecompany. He died from cancer of the throat. Bertha had turned her homeinto a boarding house since her husband was ill and unable to work. Thehouse was near Waugh Drive in Houston.
