"Gus" Duflot was one of three brothers. He too, like his brotherGeorge, was deaf. He may have had malaria or some high fever that causedhis deafness. George was born deaf. Their brother, Joe, was not hearingimpaired.

"August Albert, born a deaf mute. He graduated from the KentuckySchool for the Deaf at Danville, KY. Married Verna Irene Haines, adeaf-mute, December 26, 1912. Separated April 19, 1929 at Akron, Ohio.He never remarried. He learned type-setting trade at school and followedfor several years. Then he became a bookkeeper and bill collector forEstes' Blacksmith Shop, Texarkana, from July 1906 to Oct. 1910. Farmedwith his father from 1910 to December 1919. He was employed as acoremaker by the Atlantic Foundry co., Akron, Ohio, from 1919 to 1929.Worked on W.P.A. from 1932 to 1939. From 1940 to the present he has beena repair man for the Palace Pool Hall.
He and his brother George once were regular players on the Mayfield,KY local baseball team in 1901, 1902 and 1903. He played center fieldand was a lead-off batter. It was while running for a fly on the CollegeBaseball field that he stepped into a hole injuring his left knee.Although it has not impaired his walking yet it has given him troublefrom time to time.
His favorite sport is pool at which he is considered quiteprofessional. While he has worked at various jobs his employers haveinvariably commended him highly for his quick wit, industry, honesty, andintegrity. His present employer forwhom he has worked for sixteen yearstold me that he is very greatly esteemed by all of his customers. Whenin the family circle or among close friends, he is usually the life ofthe party. His dramatizations of unique personal experiences suchas hisfirst trip on an airplane, or his impersonalizations of human traits andcharacteristics--all done in sign language and readily understood byeveryone--elicit screams of laughter from all spectators. He is a realcomedian and the most sociable fellow well-met of any member of theDuflot tribe.
Verna, his wife, died in late December 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio. Thenewspaper reported the cause of her death was from asphyxiation.
Two children were born to Gus and Verna: August Albert, Jr., July29, 1916. He died at the age of two months from suffocation while asleepin bed with his parents. Basil Aubrey was born Oct. 2, 1918."
August Albert was baptized in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church,Paducah, KY on October 6, 1878, No. 1116. Sponsors were August Wurth andJosephine Wurth. Rev. J. C. Feehan officiating. (Copy in book).Josephine (Woeltz) Wurth was thefirst cousin of Marie Antoinette FleithDuflot.
From The Kentucky Standard on October 19, 1916 -
"Augustus Duflot of Texarkana and his father will have a very profitableyear with their farm. Among their crops was twenty acres of cotton, andthey calculate to make nine or more bales. That is a very good yield forsuch a dry season as thepast; in fact it is better than the average inany season. It is only in exceptional cases that as much as a bale tothe acre is realized. As cotton is now worth $80 a bale and the seedenough more to make it over $100, it will be seen that theDuflots aredoing well. ----Arkansas Optic."
