Obit from Mauston, Juneau WI Sept. 17, 1908
The remains of EdwinF. Akin, an old resident of Mauston and
Lemonweir were brought here for burial last Thursday afternoon. Deceased
was 79 years, 2 months, and 1 day old and was born in Wyoming County, NY
July 7, 1829. He enlisted in the Co. A, 4thNY, heavy artillery in 1862
and served three years with distinction, havingtaken part in many of the
great battles of the war. After his discharge he came to Mauston and for
one year was landlord of the McCafferty Hotel. He then moved to a farm
in the town of Lemonveir where he remained until 1887 whenhis wife died
and he sold out and moved west.
He died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. F. Boorman in St. Paul,
MN Tuesday, Sept. 8 and his remains brought to Mauston where the funeral
was held at the Presbyterian church Fridayafternoon, Rev. R. A. Atkins
officiating.
He leaves two sons, F.S. of Asakis, MN, B.E. of Hillsboro, WI and
four daughters, Mrs. Ida Boorman, of St. Paul, Mrs. Etta Ingham and Mrs.
Angeline Graham of Chicago, and Mrs. Jennie Boyington(Boynton) of Los
Angeles, CA, all of whom except the latter, attended his funeral.
Besides these, Mrs. F.S. Akin and Mr. A. F. Boorman attended thefuneral.
His remains were laid beside those of his wife in Mauston, cemetery.
