The Independent (Hawarden, Iowa) 1/6/1972 Funeral services for Sophia Klumb, who passed away on New Year's Day in the Morningside Manor of Alcester at the age of eighty-three years, were held last Tuesday afternoon, January 4th, in Trinity Lutheran Church of this city, the Rev. O.F. Pittack conducting the service. Interment was made in Grace Hill Cemetery with the Dow Funeral Home in charge. Anna Sophia, the oldest daughter of Fred Heuer and wife, Katherine, nee Schlumbohm of Sioux Center, Iowa, was born on a farm in Eagle Township, Sioux County, Iowa, on April 18, 1888. She became a member of St. Paul Lutheran congregation of Ireton, where she was baptised and confirmed. On March 30, 1910, she was united in marriage to Albert Klumb of Union County, South Dakota, the Rev. George Hoelscher, pastor of the local congregation, performing the ceremony. At this time she also became a member of this congregation. For over forty years she lived northeast of Hawarden, where her husband was engaged in farming. On January 6, 1943, she and her husband retired to Hawarden. She spent the last seven and one half years in Morningside Manor in Alcester. Preceding her in death, besides her parents, were her husband, on August 11, 1955; a son, Victor, who died at 2 1/2 years of age on April 12, 1918, two brothers, John and William Heuer; and one sister, Mrs. Herman (Lillian) Gradert. Survivors include two daughters: Esther (Mrs. Gerrit Boerma) of Maurice, Iowa, and Helen (Mrs. Marion Reit) of Beresford, South Dakota; two grandsons; Dale Boerma and Allen Reit; two great-granddaughters Karla Renee and Trisha Marie Reit; one brother, Fred Heuer of Hawarden; two sisters: Mrs. Emil (Minnie) Steinfadt of Hawarden, and Mrs. Chris (Anna) Westergard of Ireton; and a number of nephews and nieces.
