Gary Lee Schmeckpeper, son of Lois Jean (Ziegler) Schmeckpeper and Garron Lee Schmeckpeper was born April 4, 1951, in Twin Falls, Idaho. Garylived in Wendell, Idaho on the Snake River until 1957, when the familythen moved to Bloomfield, Nebraska. Gary attended Cottonwood Country School until it closed in 1961, when he then transferred to First TrinitySchool until the 8th grade. Gary finished school at Bloomfield Community High School, graduating in 1969. Gary was accepted to and graduatedfrom the University of Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture at Curtis, Nebraska with a degree in Diesel Mechanics. After college, Gary moved back to Bloomfield where he continued working for the family John Deere Business, Schmeckpeper Implement. Gary started working at the age of 13 for his Grandpa Ernest Schmeckpeper when he purchased the John Deere Dealership in Bloomfield in March of 1964, and continued to work forJohn Deere for the next 50 years. In 1976, he met the love of his life, Debra Nelle Gibbs, and they were united in marriage on August 5, 1978, in Grand Island, Nebraska, at St. Stephen Episcopal Church. To this union three daughters were born, which brought much joy to their lives.

Gary was a member of First Trinity Lutheran Church, volunteer fire department, fair board, school board, and was also instrumental in organizing the Jaycees in Northeast Nebraska. Gary loved old iron whether it was street rods, car shows, drag racing his rail at Marion, South Dakota,rebuilding old John Deere Tractors, horse drawn John Deere Equipment,and all farm equipment. His knowledge of John Deere Equipment and all farm equipment will be missed by countless farmer friends. He loved going to farm shows, Thrashing Bees, Tractor Pulls, and helping out Shawn Endres at the annual Farm Fest. He also loved driving truck and most importantly spending time with his grandkids. Grandpa often took them trucking and farming with him. Family time was so special to Gary. He was always up for a good road trip and family get-togethers.
Gary passed away on January 6, 2014, of a sudden illness at Avera McKennan Hospital, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Survivors include his loving wife of 36yrs, Debra; daughters, Katie Schmeckpeper and husband Sal Pena, children, Hannah, Selma, Elenis, Emanuel, and Eliza of Bloomfield, NE; Garriann Schmeckpeper Edholm & husbandAllan, children, Grier, Gannon, & Tatum of Bloomfield, NE; Bethany Schmeckpeper Kelly and husband Morris of Bellflower, CA; brothers, Rick andLori of San Diego, CA; Doug and Krista of Bloomfield, NE; sisters, Sandra Kaiser of Bloomfield, NE; Brenda Pagel of Anderson, MO; Sherri & Dean Plumbtree of Wausa, NE; sister-in-law, Roben Schemeckpeper of Bloomfield, NE; and brother-in-law, Glenn Gibbs.

Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Lois Jean and Garron Schmeckpeper; mother and father-in-law, Kathryn and Everett Gibbs; brother, Terry Schmeckpeper; brother-in-law, Michael Pagel Sr.; brother in law, Clark Gibbs; and sister-in-law, Mary Nugent.
