Terry Lynn Schmeckpeper, son of Garron and Lois Jean (Ziegler) Schmeckpeper, was born May 8, 1952, at Twin Falls, Idaho. Terry died Wednesday,May 9, 2012, at his home in Bloomfield, NE.
Terry attended Cottonwood country school and First Trinity Lutheran School in Bloomfield, before graduating from Bloomfield High School in 1971. On April 2, 1977, he was married to Roben Murray at First Trinity Lutheran Church in Bloomfield; a church Terry was a member of from childhood on. The couple was blessed with two children, Minnie Ruth, and Jeffrey Douglas.
Farming was always a big part of Terry's life after the family moved toBloomfield in 1957. After graduating from high school, Terry worked for a short time in Omaha at a packing plant, before returning to Bloomfield to work for his dad at the family's John Deere dealership. Terry worked in the "south shed" at Schmeckpeper Implement, primarily assembling center-pivot irrigation systems, and after his dad bought a farm south of Bloomfield, had the chance to row-crop farm, and raise hogs and baby calves. Terry then moved north, and later farmed west of Bloomfield,adding his favorite animal, Holsteins, to the operation. During this time on the farm, many nieces and nephews helped out, spending summers on the farm and getting the dairy cattle ready for the Knox County Fair.When the family lived west of town, Terry also started his stock-cow herd, and helped build the Clark Mills Wild Horse Ranch, where he workedfor a number of years.
Due to health reasons, Terry changed programs, and he and his family raised many calves on nurse cows. His kids called his new farming venture, "Second Chance Ranch". Terry also began working part-time for the Creighton Livestock Market and Poppe Hay Company. During the last 10 years, Terry's daughter Minnie, and son-in-law Todd, have taken over the operation, while Terry continued to do the cattle buying at sale barns, and most recently on-line (Dad learned to run a computer!)
Terry loved to farm, care for his animals, and socialize with his buddies. In later years, he enjoyed watching his grandsons, going to their activities, and involving them in the farm. Terry watched all football games, pro and college, especially Nebraska, and "fantasy football" withthe local guys. He also enjoyed going to the livestock markets and most any farm sale.
Terry is survived by his wife, Roben Schmeckpeper of Bloomfield, Nebraska; daughter, Minnie (Todd) Sauser of Bloomfield, Nebraska; son, Jeff Schmeckpeper of Durham, North Carolina; two grandsons, Tyson and Jarrett; brothers, Gary (Deb) Schmeckpeper of Bloomfield, Nebraska, Doug (Kris) Schmeckpeper of Bloomfield, Nebraska, and Rick (Lori) Schmeckpeper ofSchleswig, Iowa; sisters, Sandy Kaiser of Bloomfield, Nebraska, Sheri(Dean) Plumbtree of Wausa, Nebraska, and Brenda (Mike) Pagel of Anderson, Missouri and a host ofrelatives and friends.
Terry was preceded in death by: parents, Garron and Lois Jean Schmeckpeper.
Burial was in the Bloomfield City Cemetery, Bloomfield, NE.
