Jo Schmeckpeper was born into this life March 18, 1929, in Oak Park, Illinois to John Mracek and Avis Rexford Carroll Mracek she was born intoeternal life on March 12, 2009. She will be remembered for her lovingand generous heart, adventuresome spirit, zest for learning, uncanny sense of humor, and the compassionate care she gave her patients. Jo graduated from the University of Illinois where she met and married the love of her life, Donald Edwin Schmeckpeper, on June 16, 1951. To them were born five children: Karen Schmeckpeper (husband Ronaldo) of Galilee,Pennsylvania Kurt Schmeckpeper (wife Barby) of Chandler, Arizona Kyla Schmeckpeper of Plano, Texas Kathi McCree MD (husband Steve) of Kemah, Texas and Krista Short (husband Gary) of Fairfield, Ohio, who blessed them with a total of twelve grandchildren. After getting her children mostly raised, she decided it was time to fulfill her dream of becoming aDoctor, and so they emigrated to Oklahoma in 1968 where she attended and graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1972, after using all her children as "patient dummies." As a doctor, Dr. Peper liked the variety of the Baptist Medical Center Emergency Room and worked there for many years, and eventually ran the ER with her usual red lipstick and iron will. Jo then joined the Langston Medical Clinic where she treated everyone from young adults to centenarians. Jo finished her career with Northwest Internal Medicine of the Plaza Medical Group and retired December 31, 1997. Jo enjoyed her retirement with her favorite hobbies: hergarden, her studies of Biblical Archaeology and Greek, travels with Donon cruise ships, and their weekends with The Stone Soup Group. Jo's last goal was to take her children on a tour of the Holy Land, which shesuccessfully completed in November 2008. Her viewing will be held from4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home, 6600 Broadway Extension OKC, OK on Sunday, March 15, 2009. Join us for a Celebration of her life at Our Lord's Lutheran Church, 2900 W. Hefner, OKC, OK at 10 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2009. Interment will follow the serviceat Resurrection Memorial Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at Our Lord's following the interment. In lieu of flowers, some of Jo's favorite charities were: Christian Children's Fund
